Saturday is International Tabletop Day!!!

Hey Everyone!!!

Well it's been a month since my last post and Beth and I have been very busy. We are looking forward to Easter weekend. On that note this Saturday has two things going for it. First- we are having a Coffeehouse at school. It is the annual "Earth-hour" coffeehouse. Yes... I know Earth Hour was last weekend, but the guy in charge scheduled this last year and the date of Earth Hour changed, but the coffeehouse didn't. I hope to play at it but we have yet to discuss what we are going to play. so who knows. I am also still waiting on my Ibinez Guitar to be fixed. It looks like it is the preamp that is busted and the part isn't due in until May. sigh....

On another note Saturday is International Tabletop Day. This is a new tradition started by Felicia Day, Wil Wheaton and all the folks at Geek and Sundry. I will put up another post shortly with links to info on this but essentially it is a day you dedicate to playing a board game with friends and family. Any game counts so pull out your trivial pursuit, 21, left right center, Sorry, Monoply or  you can try one of the new Euro board games or rpg style board or dice games that have come out in recent years such as Dixit. or Elder Sign.
Beth and I are planning on playing a couple of Japanese -themed games. The first is Tokaido, where you take the role of a traveler journeying on the Tokaido road from Kyoto to Edo (Tokyo). We practiced this last weekend and it was pretty fun. The second game is called Takenoko where you play the role of a gardener growing bamboo to feed a Giant Panda that was given as a gift to the Emporer of Japan. Looks like fun.

If we have time, we might even try playing Mice and Mystics. a collaborative board game where you play mice that are trying to complete objectives. All fun games and we are looking forward to it.

If you can't tell Will Wheaton's youtube series "tabletop" and another youtube series called "Watch it Played" have inspired me to get back to my gaming ( D & D) roots.
Here is a pic of the two games we will be playing:
